This pamphlet was first published by the Psychedelic Information Center of Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 1968. The word “phanerothyme” was proposed by Aldous Huxley in the 1950s as a term to describe the class of mind-expanding drugs that later became popularly known as psychedelics. In this essay the author recommends the value for Westerners of returning to the roots of Western spirituality for a context for the psychedelic experience, as an alternative to the interest in the Oriental spiritual traditions that was widespread among psychedelic enthusiasts at the time. $4.99
