This essay appeared in Putnam’s Monthly Magazine for April 1854, and it was included as a chapter of the author’s book The Lands of the Saracen. In this autobiographical account, the author and some friends indulge in a hashish experiment in the city of Damascus, but discover that the drug is much more powerful than they expected. Also included in this edition is a sensational press report from an 1895 issue of the New York Herald entitled “Orgies of the Hemp Eaters.” $4.99
