Equinox , March 1910. Charles Baudelaire (1821-1867), author of the
1857 collection of poetry Les Fleurs du Mal, participated in the
infamous “Club des Hachichins” along with such literary figures as
Théophile Gautier, Alexandre Dumas and Honoré de Balzac in the 1840s. In
this essay he recounts his observations of the effects of the herb,
along with his critical evaluation of the spiritual and moral dangers of
